Maruti Suzuki Ertiga BS-VI Petrol Launched In India — Prices Start At Rs 7.54 Lakh
Maruti Suzuki is slowly updating all its models to comply with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. The new stringent emission regulations will be implemented in the country from the 1st of April, 2020.
Ahead of its implementation, Maruti Suzuki has already introduced a number of models, compliant with the BS-VI regulations including the Alto, Wagon R, Swift, Baleno and the Dzire.
Now, the Indian carmaker has launched the BS-VI compliant Ertiga MPV in the Indian market. The Maruti Ertiga BS-VI model is offered with a starting price of Rs 7.54 lakh and goes up all the way to Rs 10.05 lakh for the top-end variant. All prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki has stated that "Ertiga (Petrol) is now BS-VI compliant. This will result in a price increase in all variants of the model."
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga BS6 will be offered with same 1.5-litre K15-series petrol engine. It will also come with Maruti Suzuki's SHVS (mild-hybrid) technology. This engine is said to produce 104bhp and 138Nm of peak torque and mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
Apart from the BS-VI update to the engine, no other changes have been made to the popular MPV in the Indian market. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga continues to be sold through the brand's Arena dealerships and is performing well in the MPV segment.
Maruti Suzuki recently launched the CNG variant of the Ertiga as well. The Maruti Ertiga CNG is the first MPV in the country to be offered with factory-fitted CNG technology and is priced at Rs 8.82 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi).
The Indian carmaker is also working on a more premium six-seater MPV based on the Ertiga. The new premium MPV, to be called the ‘XL6' is expected to go on sale from the 21st of August, 2019 and will be sold exclusively through the brand's Nexa dealerships. It is likely that the new premium MPV, once launched will receive the BS-VI update as well.
Thoughts On The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga BS-VI Launch
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is one of the most popular MPVs in the Indian market. The MPV brings in volume sales for the brand, which is currently experiencing declining sales in the market. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga BS6 petrol will continue to rival the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo, Toyota Innova Crysta and the upcoming Renault Triber (expected to launch next month).
