Electric Vehicle Drivers Could Gain Hundreds Of Miles Yearly With Proper Tyres

Recent research spearheaded by Michelin has unveiled that electric vehicle (EV) owners stand to gain significantly in terms of mileage and cost savings by opting for EV-specific tires. The study highlights that such tires can boost the range of an EV, originally capable of 250 miles per charge, by an impressive seven percent. This enhancement translates to an additional 18 miles per charge, culminating in an extra 700 miles annually for the average UK driver. With 570,561 EVs registered in the UK eligible for Michelin's e-PRIMACY tires, the collective potential missed range amounts to a staggering 495 million miles per year, alongside potential savings of £84 million.

John Howe, Michelin's Managing Director for the UK & Ireland, emphasized the dual benefits of EV-suitable tires, noting their capacity to not only extend battery range but also to demonstrate increased longevity on electric vehicles. Further underscoring the practical advantages of these tires, Michelin has identified and ranked the top 10 EV models that benefit most from additional mileage and cost savings. Leading this list is the Hyundai Ioniq 6, which boasts an extra 26 miles per charge and a saving of £4.55.

Boost EV Mileage with Right Tyres

To assist EV owners in quantifying the mileage and financial benefits of switching to EV-appropriate tires, Michelin has introduced the e-PRIMACY Calculator. This innovative tool accounts for factors such as reduced rolling resistance and energy-absorbing features in tire sidewalls, both key to enhancing battery range. Through this initiative, Michelin aims to bolster the appeal of electric mobility by making it more environmentally friendly and financially viable, thereby offering EV users greater freedom and flexibility in their daily commutes.

The implications of Michelin's findings are profound for the burgeoning EV market in the UK. By adopting EV-specific tires like the e-PRIMACY, owners can significantly reduce their environmental footprint while simultaneously achieving considerable cost savings. This development marks a significant step forward in optimizing electric vehicle performance and sustainability, aligning with broader goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner modes of transportation.
