A Honda RC213V-S was recently sold at for a record 27.1 million Japanese Yen ( $238,943) at an auction in Japan. This is the highest price ever fetched by a Japanese bike at an auction.
The Honda RC213V-S beat the record previously held by a 1968 Honda CB750 prototype, which was sold in 2018 for the equivalent of $221,600. The CB750 was one of just four prototypes of the sports bike that Honda made specifically to target the US market, which was, at that time, clamouring for a larger capacity motorbike from the Japanese marque.
The Honda RC213V-S was a street legal version of Honda's RC213V Moto GP bike. The race bike has taken the Japanese marque to seven Constructors Championships in the Moto GP championship since it was first introduced in 2014. The bike has also been instrumental in rider Marc Marquez's 6 World Riders Championships and 59 race wins and a total of 99 podium finishes in 142 race starts in Moto GP since he graduated to the litre class bikes in 2013.
Honda claims that the RC213V-S shares 80 per cent of its parts with the Moto GP race bike. The RC213V-S, like the race bike on which it is based, is powered by a liquid cooled, DOHC 999cc V4 engine with four valves per cylinder. The RC213V-S's engine produces 157bhp at 11,000rpm and 102Nm of torque. However, owners of the 213 street legal Moto GP bikes had the option to up the power and torque with the addition of the Power Kit.
In this Power kit guise, the RC213V-S's 999cc engine cranked out 212bhp at an astonishing 13,000rpm and 118Nm of torque at 10,500rpm. The engine was paired with a sequential 6-speed manual transmission. The power kit also raised the rev limiter of the engine from 12,000rpm to an eardrum shattering 14,000rpm.
What makes the new record-breaking RC213V-S even more special is the fact that it has only 291 kilometres on the clock and all of the Power Kit parts - Engine control unit, Front air duct, exhaust muffler, AI joint cover set, spark plugs, loadcell type quick shifter, Gear shift drum (reverse), Datalogger set, rear cushion connecting rod, front brake pad, front brake lever remote adjuster, thermostat set, sprocket set, clutch guard (CFRP), front cowl undercover, front winker holeýplug, seatback rubber, lower cowl drain cap, Harness modification set, front/rear maintenance stand and indoor machine cover — are all unopened and still safe in their original Honda parts boxes.
When it first went on sale in 2015, the Honda RC213V-S cost 188,000 euros with the power kit (which was not available for sale in the United States due to noise restrictions) costing another 12,000 euros.

Launched in 2015, the Honda RC213V-S is a Moto GP fan's dream motorcycle considering that it was basically a race bike with lights and indicators bolted on to make it street legal.
