Toyota Glanza Sales Overtakes Tata Altroz In March 2020: Maruti Baleno Continues To Lead The Segment
Toyota Kirloskar Motors introduced their first premium hatchback, the Glanza, back in June 2019. The Toyota Glanza is the first product to be part of the Toyota - Suzuki partnership in the Indian market and is essentially a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
Since its launch in India, the Toyota Glanza has managed to perform extremely well for the brand, bringing in consistent volume sales every month. Positioned in the premium hatchback segment, the Glanza registered sales of 1,533 units in the month of March 2020. This is still higher than its newest rival in the segment, the Tata Altroz.
The Tata Altroz was launched in India earlier this year. The Altroz is the first premium hatchback offering from the brand in the Indian market and comes with a host of new features and equipment, making it an extremely attractive offering.
In the month of March 2020, the Tata Altroz recorded 1,147 units of sales. This makes it the fourth-best premium hatchback offering in India. The Tata Altroz is positioned below the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20 Elite and the Toyota Glanza, which occupy the top-three slots respectively.
The Tata Altroz comes packed with features and also has an extremely attractive design. However, the low sales of the hatchback are mainly due to the current lockdown situation, which has put trickled down car sales to a bare minimum.
The Toyota Glanza is now the entry-level offering from the brand in the Indian market. Toyota recently discontinued the Etios and Corolla Altis offerings in the Indian market — here are the details.
The Glanza features the same set of 1.2-litre petrol engines, both of which are BS6-compliant. The first is the 1.2-litre K12B unit producing 83bhp and 113Nm of torque.
The second is a 1.2-litre K12C engine paired with a mild-hybrid system, churning out 90bhp and 113Nm of torque.
Both engines are mated to a standard five-speed manual gearbox, with the K12B series engine receiving the optional CVT automatic transmission as well.
Thoughts On The Toyota Glanza Sales Overtaking The Tata Altroz
The Toyota Glanza has done surprisingly well in the Indian market. Although a re-badged version of the Baleno, the Glanza has managed to hold its own in an otherwise competitive segment. The Tata Altroz sales has been affected by the lockdown, as we do expect it to perform well once things get back to normal.
