Hyundai And Dutch Government Join Forces To Advance Smart Mobility Solutions
In a significant move towards enhancing road safety and traffic efficiency, Hyundai Motor Group has joined forces with the Dutch government. This partnership aims to integrate smart mobility and connectivity services into Hyundai and Kia vehicles across the Netherlands. Through this collaboration, these vehicles will soon be equipped with an innovative Emergency Vehicle Approaching Alert function, marking Hyundai and Kia as the first Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in Europe to adopt such a feature.
The initiative is part of the Group's broader strategy to shift towards a software-defined everything (SDx) ecosystem, emphasizing the role of software and artificial intelligence in creating a user-centric mobility experience. The collaboration was formalized through a Letter of Intent (LoI) signed at Hyundai Motor Group’s Namyang Research and Development Center in South Korea. The ceremony saw the participation of key figures including Kees van der Burg, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Netherlands; Chang Song, President and Head of Advanced Vehicle Platform Division, Hyundai Motor Group; Olivier Pascal, General Manager and Head of Connectivity, Kia Connect GmbH; and Tyrone Johnson, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center GmbH.

Under this partnership, Hyundai and Kia vehicles in the Netherlands will be able to connect with Dutch infrastructure to access vital traffic and safety data. This includes real-time information on traffic incidents and alerts about approaching emergency vehicles like ambulances, enabling drivers to respond more effectively. The project also aims to reduce traffic congestion through enhanced vehicle-to-vehicle communication.
Starting from the fourth quarter of this year, Dutch drivers subscribed to Hyundai and Kia's connected car service will receive these updates wirelessly through Over-the-Air (OTA) technology. This development not only promises to make driving safer but also smarter by leveraging advanced connectivity services.
President Song from Hyundai Motor Group expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting its potential to improve road safety and enhance in-vehicle convenience for customers through shared data with the Netherlands. Similarly, Mark Harbers, the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, shared his excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the limitless possibilities in making cars safer through technology.
This collaboration aligns with Hyundai Motor Group's commitment to building a mobility ecosystem centered around software and AI. It underscores the Group's dedication to innovating smart mobility solutions that cater to global needs while enhancing user experiences.
