Ferrari California T is the new Ferrari we had been waiting for several months now. And as was know already, the new California T comes with a turbocharged engine.

The last time a production Ferrari with a turbocharged engine rolled on the streets was back in the 1980s when the F40 was being manufactured. While the new California T is currently the only turbocharged Prancing Horse, it is the first of a new breed.

To comply with stricter emission norms without compromising on performance all future Ferrari models are expected to go turbo.

The new Ferrari California T will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show, which starts on March 4, 2014.

The California T coupe is not a brand new car. Instead, it is a modified version of the outgoing California. The car's flank design takes inspiration from the 250 Testa Rossa's pontoon-fender styling.

Ferrari has retained the 2+2 seating configuration and has made several revision to the interior. One of the most notable addition is that of a new 6.5 inch touchscreen display.

The engine is a modified version of the 3.8 liter V8 that Ferrari builds for the Maserati Quattroporte. The engine, with its twin turbochargers develops 552 HP at 7500 rpm and an outstanding 755 Nm of torque at 4750 rpm.
The specific power output of 145 cv/l is the highest in its category.

Ferrari claims for the "first time virtually zero turbo lag has been achieved on an engine of this type, guaranteeing instantaneous response to commands" The twin-turbo engine is also said to deliver a constantly increasing torque curve, much like a naturally-aspirated engine. Something that's been made possible with the use of Variable Boost Management.

Compared to the naturally aspirated 4.3 liter V8 engine of the outgoing California, the new engine is said to consume 15 percent less fuel, while still generating 49 percent more torque. Emissions are down to 250 g/km.

The claimed 0-100 km/h time is 3.6 seconds and the California T can achieve a top speed of 316 km/h. Carbon ceramic brakes, a standard on all Ferrari models, ensure the car comes to a halt from 100 km/h within 34 meters.
