Honda City 2020: India Launch Date, Price, Specifications, Features, Mileage & Other Details
Honda recently unveiled the fifth-generation City sedan in Thailand. The new Honda City (2020) sedan will make its way to the Indian market very soon as well. The new City sedan comes with a host of updates, along with a long list of added features as well.
The new Honda City is much longer and wider than the outgoing model. It also comes with a completely new design on both the exterior and interior. Once launched in India, it will rival the likes of the Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.
Ahead of its launch, here is everything we know about the upcoming fifth-generation Honda City (2020) model:
Expected Launch Date
The new Honda City (2020) sedan is expected to go on sale in the Indian market in the next couple of months; most-likely between February - March next year. However, the new Honda City has just been globally unveiled, hence there is currently no official timeline for its launch in the Indian market.
Expected Pricing
The new Honda City (2020) sedan will carry a slight premium over the current-generation model. We expect the new City sedan to be offered with a starting price of around Rs 10 - 10.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
The current-generation Honda City is priced between Rs 9.81 lakh to Rs 14.61 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi). The new sedan will also be compliant with the latest BS-VI emission norms, which will add to its pricing in the Indian market.
Specifications
The new fifth-generation Honda City in India is expected to carry forward the same engines as on the current model. This includes a 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. However, the engines on the new Honda City (2020) will be compliant with the upcoming BS-VI emission regulations from the start.
The BS-VI compliant engines are expected to produce the same power and torque figures as the current engines. To reiterate, the 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 117bhp and 145Nm of torque and is mated to either a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission unit.
The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 99bhp and 200Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox, without an automatic transmission on offer.
At the global unveil, Honda also introduced the petrol-hybrid version of the City sedan. This version comes with Honda's i-MMD mild-hybrid technology mated to the 1.5-litre petrol unit. However, the company is yet to confirm whether the India-spec model will feature this petrol-hybrid powertrain.
Mileage
The new Honda City is compliant with the latest BS-VI emission norms will offer more refinement and fuel-efficiency from its 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. Considering the mileage of the current model, we can expect the 2020 City sedan to return a fuel-efficiency figure roughly around 17 - 22km/l.
Note: The fuel-efficiency figure is just an assumption at this time. Official figures will be updated after the new Honda City has been launched in the country.
Features
The new Honda City (2020) comes with a host of updates, both in terms of styling and added features. The cabin has been completely re-designed to offer a more premium and upmarket feel.
Starting off from the exteriors, the new Honda City is offered with a new set of LED projector headlamps. These are integrated with the LED DRLs, which are positioned at the top.
The fifth-generation sedan also comes with newly-designed 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheel design and a redesigned set of 3D LED tail lamps as well.
Both the headlamps and taillights feature a wrap-around design, blending well with the sporty styling of the new sedan.
Other interior features on the 2020 Honda City: new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an analogue instrument cluster with a central MID, automatic climate control, steering-mounted controls and plenty of storage places. The higher variants of the sedan could also feature an electric sunroof as well.
The new Honda City will also come with all the safety equipment, most of its as standard. These safety features include ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, disc brakes, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian protection, reverse parking camera, front parking sensors, seat-belt reminders, ISOFIX child seat anchors and high-speed warning system; among others.
