Honda Amaze Scores 2-Star Safety Rating At Global NCAP Crash Tests – Next-Gen Model To Arrive In 2025

The Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) has put the New Honda Amaze Sedan through crash tests. Under the new norms of the GNCAP, the Honda Amaze scored a 2-star rating for adults and a 0-star rating for children in terms of protection.

The Honda Amaze is one of the last cars that will be tested under the GNCAP’s Safer Cars for India campaign as India has recently introduced the Bharat NCAP safety assessment campaign, which is set to be the new assessment program.

The Honda Amaze sold in South Africa, scored a 4-star rating for adults and a 1-star for children in terms of protection, in previous testing in 2019. However, due to the stricter norms and regulations, the Honda Amaze this time around has scored significantly lower.

The Honda Amaze is equipped with safety features like ABS with EBD, two front airbags, one for the passenger and one for the driver, rear parking sensors, rear multi-view cameras, ISOFIX child seat hinges and high-speed alert systems.

The GNCAP test report stated that both children's dummies faced severe head impacts on the frontal contact test. The three-year-old dummy faced a lot of pressure on the neck and chest areas, whereas the one-and-a-half-year-old had the risk of being thrown out of their seat.

The absence of three-point seat belts in all seats, no passenger airbag disconnect switch, and the fact that there is only one for a CRS makes the Amaze score 0-star in the child protection rating.

The adult occupant projection was scored a mere 2-star because of the lack of airbags and protection for the side of the heads the absence of ESC and features like seat belt reminders for passengers.

This raises the question of why GNCAP did not test a newer model, as Honda has recently updated the whole line-up in India to include features like seat belt reminders for all five seats, for additional safety.

Honda Cars India has stated in an official statement that the Honda Amaze is a “5-star level” car but “due to requirement of certain equipment like Electronic Stability Control and Side Curtain Airbags” the Amaze scored lower on the charts.

However, Honda is dedicated to improving the vehicle. This is highlighted in the statement which said “We are dedicated to continuously work to enhance our vehicles on all parameters of safety and improve them further at model change timing.”

The Honda Amaze is an odd pick for a car to crash test. Given that it was launched in 2018 and hasn’t been updated since. Honda is expected to release an all-new model to replace the current generation of the Amaze in the coming year.

DriveSpark Thinks

The Honda Amaze offers some safety features like ABS with EBD, airbags, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat hinges, but unfortunately, the recent crash test results are disappointing. But Honda's dedication to enhancing safety, and we can be sure to assume that they will make the necessary changes with their new release in the coming year.
