Spy Pics: 2020 Royal Enfield Classic Spotted Testing — Is This The Next-Gen Thumper?
Royal Enfield is currently hard at work readying its lineup of retro-classic bikes for the upcoming BS-VI emission norms that go into effect on April 1, 2020. Now, the automotive paparazzi over at Powerdrift have spotted what appears to be a 2020 Royal Enfield Classic 350 or 500 motorcycle on the roads of Chennai.
The spied Classic motorcycle sports a host of changes, which hint that it could very well be one of the 12 new bikes that Royal Enfield is planning to flood the streets with post the implementation of BS-VI emission norms. These changes include what appears to be a new heat-shield design for the exhaust setup. The heat shield looks to be shorter compared to the one found on current Classics and features a rounded edge as well.
The taillamp is now placed on a barrel-like extension from the rear fender and sports a chrome bezel around its diameter. Another big cosmetic change is the seat, which also appears to be changed from the one seen on the current bike.
However, the most noticeable change, which really points at this being a new-gen bike rather than a facelift, is the positioning of the rear brake disc. The brake disc has switched positions and now sits on the right side of the bike. This means that the chain-drive setup of the 2020 Royal Enfield Classic is now on the left side of the bike, which is the opposite of the setup of the current bike.
The new chain drive setup is expected to be hooked up to a BS-VI version of the UCE powerplant used on both the 350 and 500cc variant of the bikes. The new Classic motorcycles from Royal Enfield are also expected to feature a new chassis setup along with other new mechanical parts which are expected to give the new BS-VI range of bikes from Royal Enfield a more smoother feel on the go. The new bikes are also expected to be lighter than before, which should improve the mileage and also allow the new bikes to go faster as well.
DriveSpark's Thoughts On The 2020 Royal Enfield Classic
With the host of changes that are set to arrive on the new 2020 Enfield Classic, Royal Enfield's lineup of retro-classic bikes are expected to become an even better proposition for the fans of the brand, which should be a win-win situation for both the motorcycle marque and its ardent followers.
