Spy Pics: Triumph Thruxton 400 Café Racer Spotted Testing

Triumph's upcoming Thruxton 400 café racer has been spied testing. This is the first time the Triumph Thruxton 400 has been spotted testing and it will be the third bike in Triumph's new single-cylinder 400cc lineup.

The Thruxton 400 test mule looks to be based on the Speed 400's setup but with a different front fascia. The motorcycle seen testing on the roads looks to be in a near-production ready state, but launch details are still not available.

The big change as mentioned before is the front fascia of the upcoming Triumph Thruxton 400. The headlamp and fairing bear a striking resemblance to the larger Speed Triple RR, marking a departure from the Speed 400's design. Furthermore, the inclusion of a clip-on handlebar is a nod towards the classic café racer style.

Despite these changes, the fuel tank to tail section remains identical to its roadster counterpart, the Speed 400. However, the changes to make the Speed 400 into the Thruxton 400 not only enhance its sporty ergonomics but also add a visual bulk that makes the upcoming cafe racer stand out.

Other than the visual changes that make the Thruxton 400 what it is, the bike looks unchanged compared to the Speed 400 on which it is based. So expect the Thruxton 400 to ride on 17-inch wheels, sport USD front forks and a monoshock at the rear.

The engine as seen on the other two new single cylinders from Triumph is the TR-Series engine that displaces 398.15cc. The liquid-cooled single-cylinder powerplant pushes out 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm of peak torque and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. We are currently not sure if Triumph will tweak the engine's output for the racier Thruxton model.

When it does hit the roads, the Triumph Thruxton 400 is expected to sit between the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X in terms of pricing in the British firm's single-cylinder lineup in India. The Speed 400 is currently priced at Rs 2.33 lakh while the Scrambler 400 X commands a price tag of Rs 2.63 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).

Thoughts About The Triumph Thruxton 400

The test mule of the Triumph Thruxton 400 points to the upcoming third model in the British firm's new single-cylinder lineup. Hopefully, the cafe racer looks will be enough for those looking for a faired Triumph single here in India.
