Auto Expo 2014: Mahindra Halo Electric Sportscar Concept Showcased

Mahindra's Reva electric vehicle division is taking massive strides towards a greener future with cars such as the XUV500 Hybrid and the electric version of the Verito. But you get a sense of Mahindra's ambition and its technological prowess when you come across the Halo - an all electric sports car.

The Rev Halo can do 0 to 100 km/h sprint in under 8 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h. Not exactly true sports car like performance, but for a company's first sports car (and electric at that) that's still an major achievement.

Mahindra Halo Performance

The electric motor is said to be a 105 kW unit (equivalent to 140 HP) and the battery capacity is not known. What's known is, it takes just 1 hour to charge to its full capacity with fast charge and it will last a full 200 km. There's also a second version with a range of 150 km.

In tune with its high tech innards, the cabin has been equipped with a tablet computer that acts like an all-in-one digital display for information and multimedia requirements.

While Mahindra has no doubt managed to garner attention by developing a technologically sound car like the Halo that's the first of its kind in India, what is also impressive and needs to be mentioned is how good the car looks.

Mahindra Halo Design

Designed in-house by Reva, which holds designers who have previously worked with Italian brands like Pininfarina and Bertone, the Halo certainly looks neat. Sporting clean lines and a generally curvy design, the Halo even gets a twin-bubble roof, a feature that's exclusive to sports cars world over. The LED headlights on this are a particular attraction. Overall, the Halo is no Ferrari, but for Mahindra Reva's first attempt at a performance car the Halo looks commendable. Our only grouch is with the interior, which, compared to the rest of the car, looks somewhat shabby.
