Royal Enfield recently unveiled its 650 Twins - Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 - at the EICMA 2017 with an aim to gain a significant foothold in the mid-engine capacity motorcycle segment across the globe.

In an interview with Autocar Pro India about lessons learned from the Himalayan, the RE boss responded by saying, "On the new 650 twins, from day one, we've got the product in the highest spec that's required anywhere in the world, and the same spec will be available in all markets."

During the development of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, the freeze on parts development came at a much later date. However, with the 650 Twins, the freeze on parts is much, much earlier in the process.

The company will launch the 650 Twins in the European market and will later launch in other markets. Sid Lal added that the 650 Twins would be the same spec in all markets unlike the Himalayan, which was then developed later as per Europe, UK, and the USA requirements.

The Royal Enfield CEO also feels that "there's always potential for failure and you always have to be paranoid about what can go wrong. I think we've covered all bases, but you never know. So you take those steps, and you don't go to the next stage of production until your fault frequency is back to the stable levels."
