Fuel Price Surge! Premium Petrol Hits ₹160/L In India – Here’s Why
Prices of premium petrol and diesel have increased in India, with rates now reaching around ₹160 per litre following the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. These fuel prices had remained largely stable over the past two years, but recent developments have led to a significant hike by oil companies.
Premium Petrol Price Hits New High
Fuel prices in India had not seen major fluctuations over the last two years, despite global tensions such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict. However, the recent Middle East crisis has had a stronger impact, particularly due to disruptions in key supply routes like the Strait of Hormuz, affecting global oil flow.

As a result, XP100 petrol is now priced at around ₹160 per litre, up from ₹149 per litre in delhi. Premium vehicles, including high-performance cars and motorcycles, often use this higher-octane fuel for better combustion and smoother performance. Earlier, Nayara Energy had announced a price hike for its petrol and diesel fuels. Now, Indian Oil has increased the price of its XP100 premium petrol by ₹11 per litre.
Alongside this, the price of XtraGreen premium diesel has also increased from ₹91.49 to ₹92.99 per litre. Recently, the government reduced taxes for oil companies by ₹10 to ease operational pressures. However, this measure does not directly reduce fuel costs for consumers. This big decision was taken by the government to stablise the fuel prices in india.

Middle East War: The Big reason
The ongoing Iran-US tensions are a major factor behind this price surge, as supply disruptions and logistical challenges have increased costs for oil companies. Global crude oil prices have also risen, nearing $100 per barrel. Not even India several other western countries including the US is facing a similar situation.
For now, the prices of regular petrol and diesel remain relatively stable without major fluctuations. However, if the Middle East conflict continues, fuel prices could become more volatile, potentially impacting consumers in the near future.
