Maruti Suzuki Dzire Is The Best-Selling Car Of FY26 - Defies The SUV Shift
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire was the highest-selling car in India in FY2025/26, with total sales of just over 2.29,130 units. Sales of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire rose by 38.8 per cent (64,109 units)YoY compared with the 1,65,021 sold in FY2024/25.
The Dzire's stunning sales win in FY2025/26 comes even though SUVs accounted for nearly two-thirds of all passenger vehicle sales in the recently concluded financial year, as the nation continues to shift rapidly towards family-friendly utility vehicles.

The Dzire recorded higher annual sales than the Tata Nexon and Hyundai Creta over the past 12 months, to take the title of the nation's bestselling car of FY2025/26. The Tata Nexon took second place with 2,16,054 units sold in FY2025-26, while the Hyundai Creta accounted for 2,01,921 units sold during the same period.
The Dzire averaged over 19,000 units per month during FY2025-26. It remained among the top three best-selling cars in most months and frequently ranked first. The Dzire, which is currently the only sedan offering from Maruti Suzuki, helped the nation's largest carmaker account for nearly six in every 10 sedans sold in the last financial year, with the Dzire taking a 57.2 per cent share of the sedan market.
Why Does The Maruti Suzuki Dzire Click With The Indian Car Buyer?
The demand for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been a consistent performer in the Indian car market since it first arrived, and the major reason for that popularity comes down to price. And we're not just talking about the initial purchase price, which currently ranges from ₹6.26 lakh to ₹9.31 lakh (ex-showroom), which helps it undercut most of its SUV rivals.
The other part of the price we should look at is the running costs. The Dzire is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 80 bhp and 111.7 Nm of peak torque and is offered with both manual and AMT gearboxes, which allow it to deliver a mileage of 24.79-25.71 km/l. The Dzire is also offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit that delivers a mileage of 33.73 km/kg.
The other major factor for the Dzire's popularity is the fact that it is also offered as a fleet car (taxis for those not familiar with carmaker speak),in the form of the Tour S, which accounts for nearly half the sales of the sole Maruti Suzuki sedan.
