Second-Generation Tesla Roadster Revealed — The End Of The Line For Internal Combustion Super Cars?

Tesla has revealed the second-generation Roadster which will enter production in 2020.

Tesla has revealed the second-generation Roadster at the unveiling of its all-new Semi-Truck. The new Tesla Roadster will enter production in 2020 with prices starting at $200,000. The founder's edition version of the new Roadster will cost $250,000.

The new Roadster will be the fastest accelerating production car of all time and will hit 0-60mph (96.5kph) in just 1.9 seconds thanks to 10,000Nm of torque which is available instantly.

Tesla Roadster 2.0 will go from standstill to 100mph (160.9kph) in just 4.2 seconds and will continue sprinting till it tops out at a provisional top speed of over 250mph (402.3kph).

Take the 2020 Tesla Roadster to the drag strip and it will annihilate the quarter-mile sprint in just 8.9 seconds.

Providing the power for all that record-breaking acceleration and bonkers top speed will be a 200kWh battery pack which will be connected to three motors.

With its super-sized battery pack (the Model S P100D has a 100kWh battery pack) has a claimed highway range of 620 miles (997.7km).

Speaking of the new Tesla Roadster at the Los Angeles launch event, Elon Musk said, "The new Tesla Roadster will be the fastest production car ever made, period. The point of doing this is to give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars. Driving a gasoline sports car is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche."
