The new Jawa 42 motorcycle brings back the classic retro design of the 50s. The motorcycle uses clean lines, polished chrome and rounded headlamps. It also comes with the teardrop-shaped fuel tank with the ‘Jawa’ badging on either side, which adds character to the overall design.
The side profile of the Jawa 42 comes with a swept-back design similar to the other Jawa model, with the wide seats and long silencers. The rear of the Jawa 42 comes with a small tail lamp set-up, just above the number plate. The name of the motorcycle is also hand-painted just above the tail lamps, which adds to the retro character while the twin-exhaust pipes add to the drama.
The new Jawa 42 comes powered by a 293cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 27bhp and 28Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
The engine is based on the same power unit used on the Mahindra Mojo. However, it has been tuned differently to offer better low-end torque and also have a flat torque curve. The engine has also been engineered to re-create the same engine noise as compared to the original models of the past.
The new Jawa 42 motorcycle comes with a fuel tank capacity of 13.5-litres. The motorcycle is expected to offer an overall mileage figure of close to around 35km/l.
The new Jawa 42 comes with a minimalistic design and styling. It comes with chrome accents all around, including the headlamps, rear suspension unit and the side indicators.
The Jawa 42 also gets a single-pod instrument cluster, with the speedometer and fuel gauge arranged in the vintage style. There is also a small digital screen to display the time.
In terms of safety features, the Jawa 42 comes with 280mm disc at the front and 153mm disc at the rear. The front disc is supported by a single-channel ABS which comes as standard. The Jawa 42 uses telescopic front forks and gas-charged dual shock absorbers at the rear.
Further, the motorcycle rides on 90/90 R18 and 120/85 R17 multi-spoke alloy wheels at the front and rear, respectively.
The Jawa motorcycles have been re-launched in the Indian market after a gap of almost 20 years. The new Jawa 42 motorcycle is the entry-level product from the brand and has already managed to create a lot of interest, just days ahead of its launch.
