Stratolaunch — The World’s Largest Plane Rolls Out Of Its Giant Hangar
Stratolaunch, the world’s largest aircraft has made its first public debut and will make its first flight in 2019.
Stratolaunch, the world's largest plane has emerged from its gigantic hangar for the first time. The Stratolaunch aircraft is designed to carry rockets to the stratosphere, where they are released.
The Stratolaunch boasts a wingspan bigger than that of a football field and weighs 2,26,000kg.
The world's largest aircraft features a twin fuselage design and the wings measure 117 meters and designed to carry payloads that weigh up to 2,49,476kg. The aircraft is powered by six Boeing 747 engines.
This is the first time the enormous aircraft has made its public debut from its gigantic hangar located in the Mojave desert. The aircraft is preparing for its fuel tests, engine runs, and finally its first flight, scheduled to happen in 2019.
Stratolaunch Systems was set up by Paul G Allen, the Co-Founder of Microsoft, seven years ago. Stratolaunch is one of the several companies that is on a mission to develop an air-launch-to-orbit aircraft.
Stratolaunch Systems has already got its first customer – Orbital ATK – and have plans to launch Orbital's Pegasus rockets into orbit using the aircraft.
