New Mahindra Scorpio Launch Details: Mahindra & Mahindra is working on the new version of their Scorpio SUV, scheduled for launch sometime in 2020. The Mahindra Scorpio is one of the most popular SUVs in India and is an excellent choice for both on-road and off-road use.
Financial Express says that the new Mahindra Scorpio will feature an updated engine which is compliant to BS-VI emission norms. A lot of manufacturers have already started working on BS-VI-compliant versions of their present models, either by working on an all-new engine or updating the existing units.
We recently reported that the new Mahindra TUV300 is also in the works; BS-VI engine being the main highlight. As per the new government rule, all vehicles coming on sale from April 1, 2020, should meet the requirements put forward by the emission norms coming under Bharat Stage VI.
Reports also suggest that the new Mahindra Scorpio will come with a fresh design update to rival the likes of the upcoming Tata Harrier (H5X) SUV and the proven Jeep Compass. On the looks front, the new Scorpio will be taking inputs from Mahindra-owned iconic design house, Pininfarina. The new Scorpio model will also come with a host of updated features for its price point.
As for the engine, the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio might have new petrol and diesel engine choices, along with the option for an automatic transmission. The current Mahindra Scorpio is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine which makes 140bhp and 320Nm of torque.
The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. All the power is sent to the rear wheels in most of the variants while four-wheel-drive is available in the top trims.
Mahindra has been a bit aggressive on the market recently with the launch of the new Marazzo MPV. The Marazzo MPV comes only in a diesel format with its all-new 1.5-litre unit which makes 121bhp and 300Nm of torque. The engine is available mated only to a 6-speed manual while an AMT variant is planned for later.
Mahindra is also readying the launch of their flagship Mahindra XUV700 or Y400 (based on the SsangYong Rexton) and the S201 compact-SUV (based on the SsangYong Tivoli). Both vehicles have been spotted testing on public roads many times.

Thoughts On The New Mahindra Scorpio
As of now, nothing much is known about the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio model and most of the information we've shared are based on assumptions and popular opinions. However, the current Mahindra Scorpio is slowly facing a decline in sales by both external and internal competition (XUV500 and TUV300). The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will hopefully showcase and offer enough to create its own space in the India automotive market.
