Tata Harrier — Why The New Tata Motors SUV Is A Game Changer In India!
The Tata Harrier is going to be a game-changer SUV for Tata Motors in India, and it will be launched soon at a compelling price tag. The anticipation for the new Tata SUV is immense and media drives have already started (we have also driven it and will be sharing our thoughts soon).
Prior to its official unveiling, the new Tata Harrier was spotted testing on Indian roads, multiple times. In fact, Tata Motors have tested their latest SUV in some of the most extreme driving conditions found across India. For the same reason, the market has got high hopes for the Harrier, and so does Tata Motors.
With that being said, here are some reasons why the new Tata Motors SUV is going to be game changer for the legendary Indian brand!
Land Rover Genes
As you would know, Tata Motors own the iconic British automotive sibling brands: Jaguar and Land Rover. Though it has been more than a decade since Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover, this is the first time they have shared some engineering and technology with the British names. The new Tata Harrier is based on a new OMEGA plaformwhich is essentially an improved version of Land Rover's D8 architecture (underpins the Discovery Sport).
First True Global Product
Tata Motors have operations across the globe and many of their products (including the iconic Tata Indica) were sold in various iteration in foreign markets, over the years. The new Tata Harrier has got everything (check out the top features here) to be a compelling choice in the affordable spectrum of global markets, and we expect the brand to see good export figures after it is launched.
Competitive Segment
The Tata Harrier competes in one of the most competitive segments on the Indian market — five-seater SUVs. Currently, the new Hyundai Creta and Maruti Brezza rule the segment and the Tata Harrier could just make a difference. As per reports, the Tata Harrier will compete with the higher variants of the Hyundai Creta and lower formats of the Jeep Compass — another big seller in the five-seater SUV market.
Value For Money
We have already shared the Tata Motors have officially confirmed that the new Harrier SUV will be priced between Rs 16 – 21 lakh ‘on-road'; making it quite a value-for-money purchase. If the reports are indeed true, we are looking at a serious alternative to the likes of the current popular five-seater SUVs. The only thing which concerns many is the absence of four-wheel-drive. Yes, the Tata Harrier is a front-wheel-drive SUV.
Enough Performance For Its Size
The Tata Harrier comes powered by a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine making 138bhp and 350Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual, and we expect it to have an automatic variant in the not-too-distant future. As told earlier, power is sent to the front wheels and we can only hope that Tata Motors will bring an all-wheel-drive Tata Harrier.
Modern Design Language
Tata Motors is one of the very few brands in India which give importance to the design aspect of a vehicle. The aesthetics of the Tata Harrier might not match everyone's taste, but it does showcase the brand's latest design philosophy — Impact 2.0. The same design theme will be followed by future Tata models, including the premium hatchback codenamed as 45X.
Anticipation For A Tata
Finally, the most important reason why the Tata Harrier is going to be a game-changer for the Indian brand — the immense anticipation. The Harrier will remain as a flagship Tata product for quite some time, and the mass is excited (and sceptical) to see how much it will make an impact on the Indian automotive market in general.
Thoughts On The Tata Harrier
The Tata Harrier will surely be a benchmark for all future Tata models. The first andtrue global product from the iconic Indian brand offers enough and more to take on its rivals. We will be sharing our detailed first drive report of the Tata Harrier really soon and in the meantime, let us know in the comment section what you think about the new Tata SUV!
