Volkswagen T-Cross Compact SUV To Rival Hyundai Creta

Volkswagen will launch a compact SUV he T-Cross in 2018 which will rival the Hyundai Creta.

German automaker Volkswagen has revealed that the company would introduce around 19 new SUVs in its global product portfolio.

Among the 19 SUVs, the smallest one will be the T-Cross. Now, Autocar India reports that the production version of the compact SUV will be unveiled in the second half of 2018.

Similar to the T-Roc SUV, the new T-Cross will retain the styling and name of the concept model. The compact SUV will be based on the underpinnings of the new-gen Polo and the recently unveiled Virtus sedan.

The Volkswagen T-Cross is also expected to share the mechanical components and exterior and interior elements with the new Polo and Virtus. The new compact SUV is likely to measure around 4.1 metres and the wheelbase will stand around 2.5 metres.

    The Volkswagen T-Cross is likely to draw power from a 1-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 110bhp and 175Nm of torque. The same engine was used in the concept version of the T-Cross.

    The T-Cross concept was equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox which delivers the power to the front wheels. Volkswagen could also offer a larger four-cylinder turbocharged engine as well.

    For emerging markets such as South America, Volkswagen is likely to offer a 5-speed manual gearbox along with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The company might also alter the specs to keep the cost low.
