In the Indian market, the XUV500 is available with a 2.2-litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine churning out 140bhp and 330Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The India-spec petrol variant of the XUV500 will not feature any changes to the design, equipment and features. The only difference will be the new G codification instead of W in the variant name. Mahindra is expected to offer the petrol model in the middle and top-spec variant of the SUV.

DriveSpark Thinks!
Mahindra is slowly shifting towards petrol engines as the emission norms are becoming strict in several countries. Previously, Mahindra had developed a smaller capacity diesel engine to tackle the ban imposed in the National Capital Region (NCR). So, Mahindra could develop more variants of the petrol engines across its product portfolio.
