Brazil-Spec Renault Kwid Crash Test Ratings By Latin NCAP Revealed

The Brazil-spec Kwid was rated with three-stars for adult occupant protection as well as for child occupant protection. The tested Renault Kwid showed sufficient frontal protection and limited side impact protection, though with inadequate protection to the chest of the adult, resulting in three stars.

The side impact structure of the hatchback limited the intrusion of the side impact barrier, which coupled with the side thorax airbag, could keep injuries below the life-threatening levels.

Child occupant safety ratings of the crash test were adequate as well; this was possible with child seat mounted on the Isofix seat mounts and Top Tether anchorage. However, the absence of an airbag disconnection switch in the front passenger area and 3-point seatbelts resulted in a rating of three out of five.

The Made-in-India Renault Kwid lacks the Brazil-spec's passenger side front airbag and side airbags, as well as Isofix child seat mounts.

Hope the Latin NCAP crash test ratings of the Renault Kwid will get the Indian subsidiary to offer better safety features in the Kwid. That said, the Indian government should introduce a policy which is stringent especially safety features of cars in India.
