Jeep Compass Vs Tata Hexa Comparison — A Close Fought Battle
Here is the comparison between Jeep Compass and the Tata Hexa.
Jeep entered India with three SUVs: the Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee SRT. All three SUVs were introduced in the country with an expensive price tag since the American carmaker wanted to establish its iconic brand in India.
But the latest launch of the Jeep Compass with an aggressive pricing has caught many by surprise, and 5,000 of those have already booked the Compass emphasising its popularity in India.
The Jeep Compass has been priced in the range of Rs 14.95 lakh to Rs 20.65 lakh (pan India), and this has led to a disruption in the segment where Tata Hexa is positioned despite being priced lower.

So why do we need to compare the Tata Hexa with the Jeep Compass even though they command different price tag? What the Jeep Compass does is that it places itself one step ahead of the Tata Hexa.
Let us compare the Jeep Compass with the Tata Hexa to understand how they are rated regarding design, price, features, safety and specifications.
Design
The Jeep Compass looks a lot like the smaller version of its handsome bigger sibling Grand Cherokee. The Clamshell bonnet with a slight bulge at the centre, the Jeep Compass looks like a proper SUV. Adding to that is the 7-slat grille with chrome surround which invokes the iconic Jeep DNA.
Along the side, the Jeep Compass is well accentuated with flared wheel arches, and the shark fin-shaped rear D-Pillar leaves a lasting impression with the eye-catching 3D-LED taillights.
Inside the cabin, the Jeep Compass with the dual-tone theme looks nice along with the Ski grey leather seat covers, though many might not fancy the simple looking dashboard.
The Tata Hexa is a fully loaded SUV with seating for seven. Dimension wise the Hexa is bigger than the Compass in every aspect. The Hexa looks beefy and butch with its imposing 'blacked out' front profile, chunky bumper and the big 19-inch alloy wheels.
Although the Tata Hexa looks a lot like an MPV from the side, the Hexa has the road presence of urban SUV with large wheel arches and the sloping roofline.
Inside, the Tata Hexa looks premium with chrome accents and piano black touches. The dashboard of the Tata Hexa is comparatively better than the Compass, but I'm not taking away the fact that the Compass interior is luxurious and seats 5-people.
While the Jeep Compass excels in the exterior design, the Tata Hexa seems to score slightly better than the Compass in the interiors.
Overall Design Rating
- Jeep Compass 8/10
- Tata Hexa 7.5/10
Engine Specifications & Gearbox
Jeep Compass is available in both petrol and diesel powertrains. The petrol Jeep Compass is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine churning out 160bhp and 250Nm of torque, offered either with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
The diesel Jeep Compass is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit which produces 171bhp and 350Nm of torque and comes paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Jeep is offering both the 4x2 and 4x4 option on the diesel model of the Compass; however, the petrol model is offered only with the 4x2 option.
The Tata Hexa is powered by the lone 2.2-litre Varicor diesel engine, but it comes in two different states of tune. While the Varicor 320 produces 148bhp and 320Nm of torque, the Varicor 400 develops 154bhp and 400Nm of torque.
The Varicor 320 comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the Varicor 400 comes paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The Tata Hexa misses out on petrol engine options. Also, the diesel engine is not as powerful as the Jeep Compass. The Compass diesel engine misses out on an automatic gearbox, though Jeep said they would offer an automatic gearbox at a later stage.
