Jeep Compass Vs Hyundai Creta Comparision — Tussle Of The Decade
Comparing the new Jeep Compass with the well established Hyundai Creta.
Jeep, the iconic American brand, is looking to re-draw the entire Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment in India with the launch of the Compass SUV. Yes, the 7-slat front grille is enough to raise the excitement levels in every Indian buyer, including me.
However, can the Jeep Compass disrupt the well positioned Hyundai Creta in the Indian market? Currently, SUVs with the price tag between Rs 15 to Rs 20 lakh command the biggest buy in the country and the Creta performs well or probably better than any of its rivals.
Let us compare the Jeep Compass with the Hyundai Creta to understand how they are rated in terms of design, price, features, safety and specifications.

Design
The Jeep Compass in many ways resembles its bigger sibling, the Grand Cherokee. The Jeep Compass comes with several highlights which carry the Jeep DNA and looks more like a proper SUV.
The clamshell bonnet with a slight bulge at the centre along with the curves reveals a beefy and butch look. The iconic 7-slat front grille finished in gloss black, and chrome surround gives the Jeep Compass a distinctive design along with the Iron Man inspired projector headlamps integrated with LED DRLs.
The side profile of the Jeep Compass is well accentuated with flared wheel arches along with the shark fin-shaped rear D-Pillar leaves a lasting impact with the LED taillights at the rear.
The Hyundai Creta is inspired by the South Korean carmaker's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 Design. When compared to the Jeep Compass, the Hyundai Creta is more upright with its sharp styling. The hexagonal front grille undoubtedly shouts Hyundai's design language with chrome surrounds. The front profile of the Creta is well chiselled and masculine.
But from the side view, the Hyundai Creta feels urbaner than an off-road SUV, which the Jeep Compass distinctively is. The rounded wheel arches give away the fact that the Creta was built keeping the urban buyer in mind and not the off-road enthusiasts.
That said, the Hyundai Creta is a stylish and well propositioned compact SUV.

Engine Specifications & Gearbox
Jeep Compass is available in both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol model of the Jeep Compass is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged unit producing 160bhp and 250Nm of torque, which will be offered with 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to the front wheels.
Powering the diesel Jeep Compass is a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine which develops 171bhp and 350Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Jeep is offering both the 4x2 and 4x4 on the diesel model of the Compass, whereas the petrol model comes with the 4x2 option only.
The Hyundai Creta is offered in both petrol and diesel models as well. Hyundai has powered the petrol model of the Creta with a 1.6-litre which develops 122bhp and 154Nm of torque and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
As for the diesel options, the 1.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine produces 89bhp and 224Nm of torque, while the 1.6-litre diesel unit develops 126bhp and 265Nm of torque.
As for the gearbox on the Hyundai Creta, the 1.4-litre unit is paired to a 6-speed manual, the 1.6-litre petrol and the diesel engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
When you compare the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Creta in the engine and gearbox, the Jeep Compass diesel model misses out on the automatic gearbox, while Hyundai offers both automatic and manual gearbox in petrol and diesel models although the 1.4-litre turbocharged diesel unit misses out on the automatic gearbox.
However, the Jeep Compass diesel model is much more powerful than the Hyundai Creta, and it also comes with a 4x4 drivetrain, which the Creta misses out, and you cannot take the Creta off-roading.
Another advantage or what makes the Jeep Compass special is its Jeep Active Drive 4x4 system which transforms the Compass into an off-road capable SUV.
