Mercedes Concept EQG Showcased - India Launch Confirmed For Electric G Wagen
German luxury carmaker Mercedes has showcased the all-electric Concept EQG for the first time in India. The Mercedes Concept EQG was showcased alongside the newly launched GLA & GLE 53 Coupe facelifts.
Along with showing off the all-electric G-Wagen, which was first revealed in 2021 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, to the Indian audience for the first time, the German luxury marque also confirmed that production spec EQG would be launching in India. We expect the production EQG to go on sale later this year.

The production-spec version of the EQG is expected to retain the concept's boxy looks, which are an electrified reinterpretation of the iconic Gelandawagen design that has made the SUV such a style icon. However, there will be a few tweaks to the G-Class design to help bring it into the all-electric Mercedes EQ fold.
These changes are expected to make the boxy SUV a more aerodynamically efficient model compared to its dino-burning sibling, which in turn should help with the range. Speaking of range, the battery pack has been fitted into the ladder-frame chassis of the electric G-Class to ensure a low centre of gravity.

The production-spec EQG is also expected to retain the Concept EQG's quad-motor, all-wheel drive setup. While power figures have not been revealed, Mercedes has claimed that EQG will eclipse the performance of the AMG V8-powered G63 model which can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds.
The quad-motor setup sees the Mercedes EQG sport a motor on each wheel which is expected to give the production spec SUV phenomenal off-road ability, though we really don't know how many customers of the all-electric G-Class will actually ever exploit this.

However, the motor on each wheel setup has meant that the EQG has its own signature move, something that has become common among electric SUVs. The EQG is able to execute what has been dubbed the G Turn, a 720-degree tank turn which the German marque recently demonstrated at CES 2024.
Thoughts About The Mercedes Concept EQG
The fact that Mercedes showcased the Concept EQG in India and confirmed that the production-spec model would be coming to India shows just how popular the G Wagen is with the big-wallet crowd in India. You won't find us complaining though as we're with them on this particular topic.
