BS-VI Compliant Tata Harrier Spied Testing — A Bunch Of Other Updates Expected As Well
Tata Motors is said to be working on a BS-VI update of the Harrier SUV for the Indian market. Ahead of its expected launch in the country, the Tata Harrier BS-VI has been spied testing on the streets of Bengaluru.
Spy pics from Autocar India, showcase the Harrier completely undisguised. However, the Harrier SUV spied testing can be seen with BS-VI stickers. Reports also suggest that the Harrier seen in the spy pics is equipped with an automatic transmission as well. Also, another important update which can be seen in the images is the presence of a sunroof.
However, the main changes expected on the BS-VI Harrier is the increase in the power output from its engine. The Harrier will continue to feature the same 2.0-litre diesel engine (upgraded to BS-VI), which is expected to produce 170bhp; a 30bhp increase from the current model. Torque figures will, however, remain unchanged at 350Nm.
The updated engine will come mated to the standard six-speed manual gearbox, along with the optional six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission as well.
Apart from the above-mentioned updates, the 2020 Tata Harrier will remain unchanged otherwise. It will continue to feature the same design, features and equipment list as on the current model.
Tata will also introduce a new seven-seater version of the Harrier; showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The Indian-spec version of the seven-seater Harrier is expected to be called the ‘Cassini' and will be the new flagship model from the brand.
Apart from the SUV segment, the Indian carmaker is also working on introducing their first premium hatchback in the Indian market, the Altroz. This is based on Tata's new ‘ALFA' platform, while also being the second product to be part of the brand's new ‘Impact 2.0' design language.
Thoughts On The BS6 Tata Harrier Spy Pics
Tata Motors is working on the Harrier update for the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. The new regulation will be implemented in the country from the 1st of April 2020, making it mandatory for all vehicles sold after to comply with the stringent emission regulations. The Tata Harrier rivals the likes of the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Kia Seltos.
