Maruti Suzuki Sells Over 6 Lakh Automatic Cars: Reaches New Milestone
Maruti Suzuki has reached another milestone with sales of over six lakh automatic cars in the country. Five lakh of these cars are equipped with the (AGS) Auto Gear Shift transmission.

The Auto Gear Shift transmission was introduced in 2014 on the Celerio hatchback model. The company says that sales of cars with the AGS transmission have steadily increased since. In fact, the company sold over two lakh AGS transmission models during the financial year 2018-19.

Maruti Suzuki currently sells 12 models that arrive with optional automatic transmission. Of the 12, the company offers AGS transmission on the Alto K10, the S-Presso, the WagonR, the Celerio, the Ignis, the Swift, the Dzire, and the Brezza.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Ciaz, and the XL6 arrive with Automatic Transmission units, and the Baleno is the only vehicle in the company's portfolio that features a (CVT) Continuous Variable Transmission unit.

Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki India Limited said that the company remains committed to offering the best automotive technology to the Indian market.

He added that this major milestone only shows growing customer confidence and acceptance of new tech the company brings to its products, and that offering multiple automatic options has allowed for the company to cater to a wider set of customers across multiple segments.

Maruti Suzuki's automatic technology offers easy if driving across cities that have stop and go traffic, and offers convenience of driving on highways. The company says that a majority of the demand for automatic transmissions come from cities like Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Delhi.

As is, the most affordable vehicle that features automatic transmission in Maruti's portfolio is the Alto K10. The company sells the model at a starting price of Rs 4.38 lakh. The most expensive vehicle in the portfolio is the XL6 Alpha AT that is priced starting at Rs 11.46 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, India.

First, congratulations to Maruti Suzuki for achieving this feat. Having said that, we're not very surprised. Maruti Suzuki has always built cars for the masses, and they did exactly that with their range of automatic transmissions.
