Hyundai is the country's second-largest carmaker, behind Maruti Suzuki. The Korean brand is also the only brand in India to feature its cars consistently in the top-selling car list every month.
With Maruti Suzuki facing heavy declines in the market, Hyundai has taken advantage to improve its market share in India. The brand's market share has grown by 2.6% from 15.94% in H1 2018 to 18.49% in H1 2019.
Majority of the improvement in sales is mainly due to the launch of the Grand i10 NIOS and the Venue in the Indian market. The Hyundai Venue is a compact-SUV offering from the brand which went on sale on May 2019. The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS is a mid-level hatchback model, which was introduced in August 2019.
The two models were received extremely well in the Indian market, bringing in volume sales from the first month. The Hyundai Venue even went on to become the best-selling SUV in the country for the month of August 2019, overtaking its rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza.
The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, on the other hand, is the third-generation iteration of the i10 hatchback. The NIOS is sold alongside the previous generation model in the Indian lineup. The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS has quickly risen in ranks to become the enter the top-10 best-selling cars in the Indian market — here is the list.
However, the best-selling model for the Korean brand in India is the Elite i20 premium hatchback. The Hyundai Elite i20 is the most popular offering from the brand in the Indian market, bringing in consistent volume sales.

In the month of September 2019, the Hyundai Elite i20 registered 10,141 units of sales. The Grand i10 came in second, followed closely by the Venue with 9,358 and 7,942 units of sales, respectively.
Another popular offering from the brand is the Creta SUV. The Hyundai Creta positioned in the mid-size SUV has long been the best-seller in the segment. However, over the last couple of months, SUV sales have dropped due to the increasing levels of competition. Hyundai is working on addressing this with the launch of the next-generation model.
The 2020 Hyundai Creta has been spied testing on multiple occasions in the Indian market. The new iteration of the mid-size SUV is expected to go on sale early next year; with a launch most likely to be held at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The Creta SUV was followed by the Santro hatchback. Hyundai brought back the ‘Santro' moniker on their new entry-level model recently, after a long gap.
The new Hyundai Santro comes with a completely fresh design, without any resemblance to the older model. Positioned as the entry-level offering, the Hyundai Santro registered 3,502 units of sales in the previous month, placing it fifth on the list.
Following the Santro are the three sedan offerings by Hyundai. This included the Xcent, Verna and the Elantra. The Hyundai Verna came in sixth on the model-wise sales break-up chart with 1,738 units of sales in the previous month. The Hyundai Xcent compact-sedan came in seventh with 1,138 units while the Elantra came in at eighth with 94 units of sales.
Hyundai recently launched the 2020 Elantra in the Indian market. Sales of the executive sedan is expected to increase in the coming months, with the new facelift version. The new Hyundai Elantra facelift is offered with a starting price of Rs 15.89 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi) — here are the details.
The bottom two positions on the list was occupied by the Tucson and the Kona electric. The Hyundai Tucson is the flagship offering from the brand in the country, which managed to register 78 units of sales. The Hyundai Kona electric — the first all-electric offering came in last with 47 units in September 2019.
Thoughts On The Hyundai Car Model-Wise Sales Break-Up
Hyundai has managed to register decent sales in the Indian market, even though it has been affected by the industry slowdown. The new launches from the brand have really helped Hyundai limit its decline in the market, allowing it to improve its market share in India. The company is also offering additional festive season discounts to further boost sales in the market.
