The Nissan Kicks missed out on a five-star rating due to the less stable structure and foot area during the frontal impact. The SUV also lost one-star in child occupancy due to the lack of an airbag deactivation switch and Isofix alerts. The effects of the lateral crash test were also adjudged as good.

The global-spec Kicks is based on the V-platform, and the India-spec model is likely to be underpinned by the M0 architecture to keep the costs down. The recently launched Renault Captur and the Duster also share the same platform in India.

Nissan has already confirmed that it will introduce the Kicks in India in 2018. The compact SUV is likely to feature the same 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine deployed in the Terrano, Duster and Captur.

DriveSpark Thinks!
When launched in India, the Nissan Kicks will be slotted above the Terrano and will lock horns with the likes of Renault Captur, Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass. But to keep the price in check, the compact SUV will be underpinned by the M0 platform, which is a setback when it comes to safety. Expect the pricing to be in the range of Rs 9 lakh to Rs 15 lakh ex-showroom.
