Hyundai India Sales Decline In June — Is #GST To Blame?
Hyundai India witnessed a 5.6 percent drop in sales in June 2017 compared to the same period last year. However, the sales figure for the first half of 2017 was up by 4.1 percent.
Hyundai India witnessed a drop in sales for the month of June 2017 when compared to the same period last year. The good news is that the sales for the period between January and June 2017 were up for the South Korean carmaker.
Hyundai sold 37,562 units in June 2017 compared to 39,807 units in June 2016, down by 5.6 percent. When compared to May 2017, sales were down by 10.58 percent.
The decrease in sales is attributed to the uncertainty that GST would have brought to the minds of prospective buyers as tax rates are much lower and cars have become cheaper.
On the bright side, Hyundai India sold 2,53,428 units for the period between January to June 2017. Compared to the same period in 2016, when the company sold 2,43,442 units increasing sales by 4.1 percent.
Hyundai's petrol cars with engine capacity smaller than 1.2-litres that are under 4-metres include Eon, Grand i10, Xcent, i20 and the i20 Active should now be cheaper by 2.5 percent with the new GST taxation system.
The Hyundai Elite i20 automatic model though should be cheaper by 1.7 percent as it is equipped with a 1.4-litre engine mated to the 5-speed auto box.
Among the diesel cars from Hyundai with engines capacity, less than 1.5-litres that fall under the sub 4-metre segment such as Grand i10 Diesel, Xcent Diesel, i20 Diesel and i20 Active Diesel should be cheaper by 2.25 percent as compared to the previous taxation system.
Models such as Hyundai Verna and the Elantra should be cheaper by 8.6 percent, while SUVs like the Creta, Tucson and the Santa Fe will be cheaper by 12 percent.

The sales of Hyundai vehicles in June 2017 might have dropped, but with the prices of most models of the South Korean carmaker falling, sales will pick up in the coming months.
