The next generation VW Passat, which will be the eighth generation model, is expected to be introduced in India in 2014. The MQB platform based Passat will continue to be assembled locally.
Rumor about the VW Passat's discontinuation in India spread soon after the announcement by Honda about the dropping of the Accord from its India lineup. The Accord and the Passat are luxury cars from traditionally non-luxury car manufacturers, which gives them a disadvantage over true blue premium automakers like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz in India.
