Tata Nano Automatic For Indonesia A Real Possibility
Tata Motors has been spreading its global footprint, with launches in Australia and now in Indonesia. At the recently held auto show in Jakarta, the Indian auto major launched a trio of new models for its customers in the South East Asian country.
Tata Motors introduced the Aria MPV, Safari Storme SUV and Vista hatchback to counter the strong presence of Japanese majors such as Toyota in the island country. The automaker set up shop in the country only about a year back through its fully owned subsidiary - PT Tata Motors Distribusi Indonesia. It believes that in the next few years Indonesia will be the company's largest overseas market.

Tata Nano
Helping it achieve its goal will be the Nano. The company's flagship small car has not been doing too well in its home country, India. But the company will try out something totally different for Indonesian. Apparently, Tata Motors has conducted market studies in that country and has learnt the love for automatic cars its citizens share. Hence, an automatic variant of Nano, reports The Hindu.
The Nano automatic is not a distant plan, but will actually hit Indonesian roads as soon as early next year. Even in India Tata Motors recently announced its decision to follow a new path as far as the Nano is concerned. It will no longer be the cheapest, rather a trendy city car.

A smart city car for younger folks image certainly suits the Nano's stature better. In fact, a well built and cheap automatic Nano has the potential to be a runaway hit in growing urban markets.
The Nano automatic will likely be manufactured in Indonesia. While absolutely no whisper about its coming to India has been heard yet, it is still possible depending on how big a success it will be outside.
