Tata Nano Looks To Shed Cheap Car Tag With Smart City Car Image

Tata Motors has been consistently recording loses for the past few months, with Jaguar Land Rover being the only profit making entity of the unit. The nearly stagnant sales of the Nano small car has not helped either.

The unsuccessful tale of Tata Motors' dream car, the world's cheapest car is known to all so we will not repeat it. As a result, the company has had to rethink its strategy for the micro car. Going forward, the Nano will no longer be marketed as an affordable car, but as a fun car, with the target customers mainly being the urban youth. Confirmation regarding this came from Tata Group Chairman Cyrus P Mistry himself, who speaking during the company's 68th annual general meeting said, "We are now focusing on increasing the features and the perceived value of the Nano with every subsequent model launch." "We are now focusing on making it a smart city car and targeting the young customers," he added.

Better Features

CNG Variant
The already delayed Nano CNG variant, meanwhile, will hit the road later later this. Hence, by next year the Nano will finally be available with the full range of powertrains for the first time in its history.
