Fiat Linea Classic Launch In India Scheduled For Sep 25

[Update: Fiat Linea Classic Launched] Realising the opportunity being lost in the relatively high selling mid-range C-segment sedan category Fiat has decided to slot a low cost Linea between the Punto and the existing Linea sedan. Linea Classic as it is called, will be launched on September 25.

The cut cost Fiat Linea Classic will naturally come with a few missing features. Externally, this change will be noticeable as a result of smaller 14 inch wheels, instead of the 15 inch alloys from the standard Linea.

On the inside, the dashboard will wear the all-black look of the Punto hatchback. Also missing in the Classic will be steering mounted controls from the Linea.

These minor changes would not bring about a significant price drop on their own. Hence, it is highly likely that Linea Classic will be powered by the Punto's version of the 1.3 liter Multijet turbo diesel engine. In the regular Linea the diesel mill generates 90 PS power and 209 Nm torque. The engine appears in a slightly detuned state in the Punto, capable of generating 75 PS power and 190 Nm of torque.

The 1.4 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine is also likely to make it into the Linea Classic.

Fiat Linea Classic will be priced at least Rs 50,000 less than the regular Linea. Direct competition for the new low cost sedan will come from Ford Classic, which in comparison has relatively fewer features to offer and runs on a less powerful 68 HP, 160 Nm torque engine.
