The immense response to the Chevrolet brands in the Indian market has instigated General Motors to launch its premium Cadillac in another two years, said its top official. The current portfolio of General Motors in India consists eight sub-brands under Chevrolet, Spark, Aveo UVA, Aveo, Optra, Tavera, Captiva, Cruze and the latest, the compact car Beat. The company"s President and MD said there has been success run for the company"s products with at least one customer buying for every 8 seconds. It, he added, reflected the craze and reputation for the luxury cars in the Indian car market.

The luxury car market in 2010 had the combined growth volume of 70% from BMW, VW, Audi and Mercedes. The increase in the growth indicated the demand for new branded luxury cars in the Indian market, he quoted. General Motors"s luxury car has been in the foray since 1902 and is present in 39 countries barring South Africa, Australia, SE Asia and India.

With the launch slated for India it might cost Rs6070 lakhs, it is expected. General Motors is entering its century old dealing in the auto industry this year and is in the market with its cars and trucks. The company has got many divisions like Opel, GMC, Buick, Holden, Chevrolet, Cadillac and Vauxhall to deal its products in nearly 31 countries. The MD said the company has already made a feasibility study for this Cadillac and the response is too good to enter into that segment without any difficulty. For the Indian market, he said, the strategy would be to focus on service rather than on sales. This purports to the fact that already there are half a million Chevrolet cars on the Indian roads, making the market to be the fifth largest for the company. (for the apex company Indian market is the sixth largest). He said out of the overall industry growth of 31%, the company secured the growth of 60% and for this year the growth is anticipated at a double digit.

Already Chevrolet Spark is grabbing much revenue for the company and now the focus is on Beat which has been in the market since last year . GM has just introduced the LPG version of Beat, equipped with the engine from Smartech and is developed locally, at Rs4.53 lakhs. General Motors will launch the diesel version in the Q2 of this year.
