Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami Bids Goodbye To VIP Culture
Following the new rule set forth by the Union Cabinet, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister K Palaniswami has removed the beacon from his car.
Days after the government announced that red beacon lights should be removed from official cars in a bid to end VIP culture in India, K Palaniswami, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has taken away the light from his car.
Reports say that Palaniswami personally removed the beacon from his car and said Ministers and other officials would soon remove them as well. He recalled what Jayalalithaa did and said, "Amma (Jayalalithaa) set an example for others by not using the red beacon light in her vehicles when she was Chief Minister."
The Union Cabinet had asked all government officials, including the Prime Minister and President to remove beacons from their cars and said only emergency services vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks could have beacons.
The officials have been given a deadline till May 1 to remove the beacons, saying, "symbols are out of touch with the spirit of new India."
