Report: Nissan Leaf Electric Car Being Considered For India

Nissan says that it plans to run a pilot project later this year and will work with governmental and private agencies to assess if there is a market for the Nissan Leaf EV.

Nissan Leaf, considered to be the world's largest-selling electric car by the manufacturer, could make its way to the Indian market soon.

As per Live Mint, Nissan says that it plans to run a pilot project later this year and will work with governmental and private agencies to assess if there is a market for the Nissan Leaf EV. A Nissan official has also been quoted as stating that the "Nissan Leaf will be part of the pilot project."

The project's aim is to test the car's performance on Indian roads and weather conditions, particularly the battery, a significant concern for the company is the deterioration of the Leaf's lithium-ion batteries, given the temperature rises in most parts of India during summers.

Also, the Leaf electric car will be eligible for the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid & Electric Vehicles) subsidy.

The 2017 Nissan Leaf employs an electric motor with 107bhp and 30kWh lithium-ion battery.

The Nissan Leaf has been a game changer in the global electric vehicle market and has sold over 2.39 lakh units until September 2016.

The Nissan Leaf is powered by an electric motor that produces 107bhp, while power is extracted from a 30 kWh lithium-ion battery that gives a range of 170 km on a single charge.
