Audi To Use Valeo’s Micro-Hybrid Technology
German luxury carmaker Audi will use Valeo’s micro-hybrid (start-and-stop) technology.
German luxury carmaker Audi will use Valeo's micro-hybrid (start-and-stop) technology in its RS5 sports coupe. The Paris-based firm is tapping into the premium segment to deliver fuel saving technology.
As opposed to the conventional alternator, the starter alternator can also start the engine in a fraction of a second. The Valeo system will save fuel up to 15 percent by automatically shutting down the engine when the car comes to a standstill.
The technology was first introduced in 2004, named as 'i-StARS'. It is a flagship product of Valeo. But several automakers dropped the technology from their modern vehicles and used the beefed up starter motors instead.
Currently, the technology is beginning to find new markets. CEO of Valeo, Jacques Aschenbroich stated that the demand for the technology is growing significantly.
Audi has introduced the mild-hybrid RS5 sports coupe in Germany and France. The German automaker becomes the first premium brand to use mild-hybrid technology in its current product portfolio.
DriveSpark Thinks!
With the strict emission norms across the globe, the automakers are striving to reduce the emission of carbon. Audi has taken the first step by introducing the mild-hybrid technology, and we can expect the same from other manufacturers.
