Demonetization Doldrums— National Highways To Go Toll Free Till Friday
The government will not collect toll till midnight of Friday as the nation deals with the after effects of the demonetization.
The Union government has extended the deadline for charing toll on the National highways to the midnight of November 18, 2016 four days past the previous deadline of November 14.
The decision has been taken to ensure smooth traffic movement across all National Highways at a time when the nation is starving for cash after the government banned Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 notes on November 8.
The government had first allowed people to use Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes at the toll booths which had lead to chaos in the absence of adequate change resulting in massive traffic jams.
On November 9, in a bid to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the highways, the government took the decision to make the national highways toll free from midnight November 11 to midnight November 14.
Instructions have been issued to all fee collection agencies, both government and private, about the extension of toll suspension date.
