Nissan To Launch Automatic Terrano This Festive Season In India
Nissan Terrano has been in the Indian market for a while now. The Japanese-based manufacturer has decided to give it a boost to improve sales. An Automatic Transmission variant is expected to launch sometime during the festive season.
The Indian automobile market has witnessed a boom for automatic transmissions. Nissan is most likely to equip its Terrano with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Introduction of a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) would increase cost and would keep customers away from it.
Renault India earlier introduced its Duster with an Easy-R AMT system. The same equipment is likely to be fitted into the Nissan Terrano. Both, the Duster and Terrano share several components between them and the AMT inclusion will be a simple addition to the compact SUV.
The Easy-R system is derived from the 6-speed manual gearbox. Only the 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Nissan Terrano will be equipped with the AMT option. Nissan is also likely to offer only the 108bhp engine with an optional AMT for driving convenience.
There are also rumours that the Terrano could also be equipped with the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. Both, AWD and AMT system from Nissan in Terrano could be introduced at the same time. Expect the Terrano AMT variant to cost in excess of Rs. 50,000 over the regular model.
