Peugeot Could Return To India With Indian Automobile Giant As Partner
Peugeot plans to make a comeback in Indian market with Tata Motors as their partner. Currently, both automobile manufacturers are in talking terms and a decision is expected soon.
There is a high possibility that Tata Motors could manufacture and sell Peugeot products through their extensive network. The French and Indian manufacturers could also share engines and other technologies.
Partnership if confirmed Tata Motors could commence Peugeot production at their facility in Sanand, Gujarat. This is the same facility that was developed to produce Nano exclusively.
For Indian market Peugeot could most likely offer their 308 sedan, 2008 crossover and 208 hatchback model. It is highly unlikely that the Indo-French duo will develop all-new models initially.
Previously Peugeot had entered into Indian market along with their robust products. Unfortunately the market was not developed enough for new vehicles, the current generation is best suited for them to make a comeback.
Tata Motors according to us is the most ideal partner for Peugeot as they have an extensive dealer and service network. Carlos Tavares, Chairman, PSA Peugeot Citroen, is pushing international plans for their products.
Recently Peugeot and Tata Motors top officials met at Bombay House, Tata Headquarters, Mumbai. The goal of this meeting as to discuss the nature and course of the deal, if confirmed.
Tata Motors currently own Jaguar Land Rover brand and is also assembling products for them domestically. They have previously helped out Fiat as well in a similar manner as they will be with Peugeot.
Peugeot had previously been in talks with Hindustan Motors, General Motors and even Mahindra for a partnership possibility. They now seem to have their focus set with Tata Motors and we could hear an announcement soon.
