Mercedes-Benz has launched the AMG GT S in India for Rs. 2.4 crore ex-showroom (Delhi). The Mercedes AMG GT S two-door sports car is the German carmaker's 14th product to be launched in India as per the company's 15 in '15 strategy.
The AMG GT S will be built and assembled in Sindelfingen, Germany and will be sold as a Completely Built Unit in India.
The supercar is available in two variants: The AMG GT and the GT S, however, only the GT S model will be available in India. Both models are heavily inspired from their racing projects. A track-only model — AMG GT3 — is being developed and will be introduced in 2016.
Powering, the AMG GT S is a 4.0-litre, V8 twin-turbo petrol engine mated to a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT gearbox that produces 503bhp and 650Nm of peak torque output. This supercar can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and can attain a top speed of 310 km/h.
Some features of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S are a push button start, electrically adjustable seats, locking differential, sports suspension with aluminium double-wishbone, five driving modes (Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race and a customizable Individual mode), 8.4-inch touch screen control, AMG Adaptive suspension, and leather interiors.
Collision prevention assist plus, Attention assist, adaptive suspension, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), stability control, front, side, overhead, and knee airbags are some of the safety features that the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S offers.
The new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S will compete against the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type in India.
Currently, the AMG GT S plays the role of a Safety Car in the Formula One Championship; this is the same model that will be on offer in the Indian market, and the regular model could be introduced later.
