Pricing

The Neo Drive variants feature a 48V Mild Hybrid system, making them the priciest among Fortuner models and second only to the GR-S variant for the Fortuner Legender. This hybrid setup is available exclusively with 4X4 automatic transmission variants. Compared to non-hybrid versions, these models come with an additional cost of Rs 2 lakh (Ex-showroom).

Hybrid Technology

This extra cost includes a 48V motor/generator, a DC-DC converter, and a small electric battery that charges through energy recuperation rather than manual recharging. The system supports an auto start/stop function, slightly enhancing fuel efficiency and providing an electric boost for improved low-end acceleration.

Powertrain System

The hybrid system pairs with a 2.8L four-cylinder turbo diesel engine producing 204bhp and 500Nm of torque, connected to a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Although official figures are not available, Toyota suggests this setup offers a 5% increase in fuel efficiency in global markets.

Other Upgrades

Aside from mechanical enhancements, the Neo Drive variants include minimal exterior changes, marked only by a dedicated badge. Interior updates are also limited; however, Toyota has enhanced the Fortuner's features with the addition of a 360-degree camera.

What Could Have Been Improved

Despite these updates, some expected features like rear ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, and Level-2 ADAS are absent at this price point. It remains to be seen if future models will incorporate these features.

DriveSpark Thinks

The introduction of the Fortuner Mild Hybrid reflects Toyota's commitment to expanding its hybrid offerings in India. With its advanced technology and slight improvements in fuel efficiency, this model aims to attract environmentally conscious buyers seeking performance without compromising on power.
