Tata Harrier EV Vs Harrier Diesel: Top Differences You Must Know

Tata Motors has introduced the Harrier EV, marking its most advanced electric vehicle yet. While it shares a similar appearance with the diesel Harrier, the two SUVs differ significantly in features and technology. The Harrier EV stands out with its unique specifications and offerings compared to its diesel counterpart.

Exterior

The Harrier EV boasts subtle exterior changes, including a closed-off grille and aero-friendly wheels. Despite these tweaks, it largely mirrors the diesel version's design. Both models share elements like LED daytime lights and a rear spoiler. However, the Harrier diesel offers eight colour options, while the EV provides five distinct finishes.

Interior Features & Tech

Inside, both SUVs feature a similar cabin layout, but the Harrier EV includes advanced technology. It sports a larger 14.53-inch touchscreen with Samsung Neo QLED display technology, compared to the diesel's 12.3-inch unit. Additionally, the EV's digital rearview mirror doubles as a dashcam, offering unobstructed views.

The Harrier EV introduces Tata's TiDAL architecture, enabling features like over-the-air updates and voice commands. It also includes Level 2 ADAS for enhanced safety on Indian roads. Unique to the EV is DrivePay, an in-car payment system eliminating mobile device dependency for transactions like FASTag payments.

Powertrain & Performance

The Harrier EV is built on a modified platform of its diesel sibling, featuring two battery options: 65kWh and 75kWh. The latter supports all-wheel drive (AWD), producing 313hp combined output. This AWD setup allows for off-road capabilities with six terrain modes and a Transparent mode for better navigation.

In contrast, the diesel variant is front-wheel drive only with a 170hp engine. It offers three driving modes similar to those in the RWD versions of the Harrier EV: Eco, City, and Sport. The AWD version of the EV can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 6.3 seconds using Boost mode.

Charging & Range

The AWD version of the Harrier EV delivers a range of 622km per charge under MIDC conditions, while its RWD counterpart can reach up to 627km. Charging options include a 7.2kW AC charger that takes about 10.7 hours for a full charge or a faster option with a 120kW DC charger that provides an 80% charge in just 25 minutes.

Pricing & Variants

The diesel Harrier offers 16 trims ranging from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 26.50 lakh ex-showroom prices in India. Meanwhile, Tata has announced 3 initial trim levels for the Harrier EV: Adventure, Fearless, and Empowered. The entry-level Adventure trim starts at Rs 21.49 lakh.
