Mahindra has launched the new Thar Roxx at an initial price of Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). That being said, the Mahindra Thar Roxx will be sold along side the Thar 3-door SUV, as such here's a quick comparison between both these SUVs.
Thar Vs Thar Roxx - Design and Colour Options
The Thar Roxx retains much of the design language of the Thar but includes unique features like a new front grille. Even base variants of Roxx come with C-shaped LED DRLs, LED headlamps, and taillamps. The side profile is enhanced with new diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Roxx also features longer and wider running boards and squared-off rear wheel arches. It includes a rear quarter glass, distinguishing it further from the 3-door Thar. The Roxx offers seven colour options compared to five for the Thar.

The Roxx's larger dimensions give it a more commanding road presence. Initially expected to be around 300 mm longer than the 3-door Thar, it actually measures 443 mm longer. Additionally, it is wider, taller, and has a longer wheelbase, enhancing its overall visibility on the road.

In terms of equipment, the Roxx surpasses the 3-door model significantly. Exclusive features include a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated seats, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. The digital cockpit is upgraded with twin 26.03 cm screens and supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Safety in the Roxx is improved with standard driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags across all variants. It also benefits from 10 Level 2 ADAS features.

Thar Vs Thar Roxx - Powertrain Options
The Mahindra Roxx offers one diesel and one petrol engine option, with two states of tune on both powertrains. The petrol variant with manual transmission puts out 152hp and 330 Nm of torque, whereas the automatic variant puts out 177hp and 380Nm of torque.
On the other hand, the base 2.2-litre diesel engine in the Mahindra Thar Roxx puts out 162hp and 330 Nm of torque, whereas the higher spec models with 4X4 powertrains produce 175hp and 370Nm of torque. Diesel powertrains also come with a choice of 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

In comparison, the base variants of Thar 3-door sport a 1.5-litre unit producing 116hp and 300 Nm, also these models come with manual gearbox and RWD layout. Whereas 4X4 models feature a 2.2-litre unit with 130hp and 300Nm of torque.
In addition to these engine options, the Thar 3-door also comes with an optional 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit delivering 151hp and 320Nm of torque. This model also comes with a choice of 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The price advantage remains with the Thar's 3-door model, which ranges from Rs 11.35 lakh to Rs 17.60 lakh. In contrast, the starting price for the Thar Roxx is Rs 12.99 lakh, with top-spec RWD variants priced at Rs20.49 lakh. (All prices mentioned in ex-showroom)
