Hyundai Inster Vs Tata Punch EV Vs Citroen EC3: Quick Comparison
Hyundai has unveiled its smallest electric vehicle (EV), the Inster, at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show. The Inster is essentially an electric version of the Casper micro-SUV and will be available in Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and. Although there is no official on its launch in India, its size and positioning are similar to the Tata Punch EV and Citroen eC3 sold in the country.
Comparing dimensions
The Citroen eC3 is the longest of the three EVs at 3,981mm, while the Tata Punch EV is the tallest at 1,742mm. The Inster has the longest wheelbase at 2,580mm and features up to 17-inch wheels. In comparison, the Punch EV and Citroen eC3 come with 16-inch and 15-inch wheels, respectively.

Powertrain, range, and performance
All three vehicles have a single electric motor setup. The Inster's motor produces 97hp in the base trim and 115hp in the Long-Range version. The Punch EV's motor generates 82hp in Mid-Range variants and 122hp in Long-Range variants. The Citroen eC3 delivers 57hp and 143Nm of torque, making it the least powerful among them.
The Inster is offered with two battery packs – a 42kWh and a 49kWh option. The larger battery pack claims a range of up to 355km (WLTP) when equipped with smaller 15-inch wheels. The Punch can be configured with either a 25kWh or a 35kWh battery, offering MIDC certified ranges of 315km and 421km respectively. The Citroen eC3 comes with a single 29.2kWh battery pack that provides a range of up to 320km on one charge.

Charging times
Hyundai states that the Inster can be charged from 10% to 80% in just half an hour using a 120kW DC fast charger. A standard AC charger takes four hours for the standard model and four hours and thirty-five minutes for the Long-Range version.
Comparatively, charging times for Tata Punch EV range from nine hours forty minutes to thirteen hours thirty minutes using a regular charger depending on variant; while Citroen eC3 takes ten hours thirty minutes to charge from ten percent to full capacity using a regular charger.
The Inster also offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality for charging larger devices or using appliances – a feature not found in either of its competitors.
Pricing
Pricing details for Hyundai Inster are yet to be announced. Tata Punch EV prices range from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh depending on variant; while Citroen eC3 prices start from Rs 11.61 lakh going up to Rs 13.41 lakh.
Hyundai's new Inster EV offers competitive specifications compared to its rivals Tata Punch EV and Citroen eC3 on paper; however, pricing details will play an essential role in determining its success in markets like India where it may potentially launch.
