Toyota recently unveiled the new Hilux Champ model in Thailand and this model has been introduced as a highly customisable vehicle. That being said, here are the top things you need to know about the Toyota Hilux Champ.

Toyota Hilux Champ: Variants

The new Toyota Hilux Champ is introduced as a highly customisable vehicle. However, Toyota is yet to reveal any details regarding the variants. That being said, Toyota has claimed that the new Hilux Champ will be available in 10 different configurations. This includes both long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase models.

Toyota Hilux Champ: Dimensions

The short wheelbase version of the Toyota Hilux Champ measures 4.9 metres long, 1.8 metres wide, and 1.8 metres tall with a wheelbase measuring 2,750mm long. This wheelbase is apparently identical to the Toyota Innova Crysta.

On the other hand, the long wheelbase variant of the Toyota Hilux Champ measures 5.3 metres and sports a wheelbase of 3,085mm. Also, both versions of the Toyota Hilux Champ feature a ground clearance of 180mm.

Toyota Hilux Champ: Powertrain

According to Toyota, the new Hilux Champ will be available with three engine and two gearbox options. This includes one diesel engine, two petrol engine options. Out of these options, we expect the more popular choice to be the diesel engine.

The 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine produces a healthy 148bhp and 400Nm of torque. Furthermore, this diesel engine in the Toyota Hilux Champ can be specified with either a 6-speed automatic unit or a 5-speed manual transmission (Torque output is limited to 350Nm in the manual variant).

The next engine option is a 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol engine with 129bhp and 183Nm of torque. This powertrain can also be specified with either a 6-speed automatic unit or a 5-speed manual transmission.

Finally, there is also a bigger 2.7-litre, naturally-aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol engine with 164bhp and 245Nm of peak torque. Also, transmission options for this engine is identical to the previous two engine options.

Toyota Hilux Champ: Hardware

The Toyota Hilux Champ is built on the Japanese automaker's IMV 0 platform. This platform consists of a rigid ladder frame chassis and it is specially developed for emerging markets.

Toyota Hilux Champ: Launch

The Toyota Hilux Champ will first go on sale in Thailand, followed by other emerging markets such as Indonesia, Africa, and South America. On top of that, we also expect Toyota to focus on the Philippines market as well.

Thoughts About The New Toyota Hilux Champ

Though there is no official word from Toyota regarding the launch of the new Hilux Champ in India, we expect Toyota to seriously consider bringing this model to India.
