Toyota Hilux Champ Makes Global Debut – A Highly Customisable Vehicle With 10 Different Configurations
Toyota has unveiled the new Hilux Champ in Thailand. This model is the second product under the Japanese automaker's 'Hilux' brand, and the Hilux Champ has been introduced as a highly customisable vehicle.
According to Toyota, the newly unveiled Hilux Champ is available in 10 different configurations, depending on the market. In fact, the Toyota Hilux Champ can be customised as per customer's requirements by third-party body-builders. However, the mechanicals and a few body panels of the Hilux Champ cannot be customised.

Speaking about the market, the Toyota Hilux Champ will first go on sale in Thailand. After the launch of the Toyota Hilux Champ in Thailand, we expect this highly customisable model to be launched in markets such as Indonesia, Africa, and South America.
Given the customisable and utilitarian nature of the Hilux Champ, we expect Toyota to bring this model to India. However, we expect this to take some time as Toyota will be focusing more on Southeast Asian markets such as the Philippines.

Coming to the powertrain options, the Toyota Hilux Champ will be made available with 3 engine and 2 gearbox options. We expect the more popular engine to be the 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine.
This diesel engine is tuned to produce 148bhp and 350Nm of torque. Furthermore, this diesel engine in the Toyota Hilux Champ can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic unit (Torque output is increased to 400Nm in the automatic variant).

The next engine option is a 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol engine with 129bhp and 183Nm of torque. There is also a bigger 2.7-litre, naturally-aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol engine with 164bhp and 245Nm of peak torque.
Much like the diesel engine option in the Toyota Hilux Champs, both the petrol engine options in the Toyota Hilux Champ can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic unit.

The short wheelbase version of the Toyota Hilux Champ measures 4.9 metres long, 1.8 metres wide, and 1.8 metres tall with a wheelbase measuring 2,750mm long. This wheelbase is apparently identical to the Toyota Innova Crysta.
On the other hand, the long wheelbase version of the Toyota Hilux Champ measures 5.3 metres and sports a wheelbase of 3,085mm. Also, both versions of the Toyota Hilux Champ feature a ground clearance of 180mm.

Thoughts About The Toyota Hilux Champ
The Toyota Hilux Champ is built on the IMV 0 platform, which is a ladder frame unit and it is intended for developing markets. However, there is no official word from Toyota regarding its launch in India.
