Auto Expo 2023: Tata Altroz CNG Showcased – Twin Cylinder Technology & Massive Boot Space

One of the biggest demerits of a CNG hatchback is its boot space as CNG tanks fill up most of the usable space in the boot. However, Tata Motors surprised everyone at the Auto Expo 2023 by showcasing the Altroz CNG with a massive boot.

Tata Motors calls this "Twin Cylinder CNG Technology", where engineers at Tata Motors used two smaller CNG tanks and neatly packed them within the boot. This way the CNG tanks lie lower and flatter in the boot, thus liberating more space for luggage.

In fact, the CNG tanks in the Altroz CNG are very well hidden away that it almost feels like the CNG tanks on the Altroz CNG are invisible. As such, the Tata Altroz iCNG grabbed a lot of attention at the Auto Expo 2023 along with the Tata Punch iCNG.

However, Tata Motors is yet to reveal any specifications about the Tata Altroz CNG, but we expect the model to sport the same 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, CNG-compatible engine in the Tata Tiago iCNG and Tata Tigor iCNG. While this engine is capable of producing 84.82bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque in standard form, this engine produces slightly lower power and torque outputs at 73bhp and 95Nm of torque while running on CNG. Moreover, the gearbox is likely to be a 5-speed manual unit.

That being said, the Tata Altroz is one of the safest hatchbacks you can buy in the country as it comes with a 5-Star safety rating from Global-NCAP. Other than this, the Tata Altroz hatchback also comes with safety techs such as multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX points, and much more.

In terms of features, Tata Altroz CNG is expected to sport a similar feature list as the standard model with features such as iRA-connected car technology, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a TFT digital instrument cluster, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, cruise control, rear AC vents, and many more.

Tata Altroz is one of the best hatchbacks currently available in the country and the only hatchback in India with a 5-star safety rating. On top of that, the launch of the Altroz CNG with Twin Cylinder Technology and the resulting boot space will be an attractive proposition for many car buyers in the country.
