Auto Expo 2023: Tata Punch iCNG Unveiled – Surprising Boot Space
Tata Motors showcased a bunch of cars at the Auto Expo 2023, and the Punch iCNG is one of the more interesting cars unveiled by the Indian automaker.
What's interesting about the Tata Punch iCNG is that despite being a CNG vehicle, the boot space of the vehicle has not been sacrificed as much and the overall boot is very much usable.

Diving into details, engineers at Tata Motors have cleverly installed two smaller CNG tanks measuring 30-litres each instead of one big tank. This move has allowed the engineers to utilise the boot space in a better manner. In addition to that, the spare wheel for the Punch iCNG is mounted under the car to liberate more space inside the boot of the SUV.
Coming to the powertrain options, we expect the Tata Punch iCNG to be powered by the same tried-and-tested, 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated engine as the Tata Tiago iCNG. This engine in the Tata Tiago iCNG is tuned to push out 72bhp of power and 95Nm of torque using CNG.

However, this engine is capable of delivering 85bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque while running on petrol. Additionally, we expect the Tata Punch iCNG to come exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission as other Tata CNG cars. That being said, we expect the Punch iCNG to deliver a fuel efficiency figure of more than 25km/kg of CNG fuel.
Also, we expect Tata Punch iCNG to be one of the safest CNG cars in India as the SUV scored a commendable 5-Star safety rating at the Global NCAP crash testing. Additionally, we expect the basic safety features on the Punch iCNG to be the same as the conventional model with safety features such as multiple airbags, ABS with EBD and cornering stability control, ISOFIX child seats, first-in-segment 'Brake Sway Control', and many more.
Thoughts About The Tata Punch iCNG
Since the Tata Punch is an SUV with a very compact footprint, it is very essential to utilise the available space to best use. Furthermore, by placing the spare wheel under the car and using two smaller CNG tanks, engineers at Tata Motors have made the boot space of the CNG car a lot more usable and this will appeal to many family car buyers in the country.
